SANITREE: Ending Period Poverty One Reusable Sanitary Pad At A Time.

The Free Provision Bill calls for period products to be made freely available to all, so that no one has to face the shame and indignity of period poverty. A 2018 survey revealed that nearly 1 in 5 menstruators in Scotland cannot afford period products and resort to using rags and old clothes. Period poverty most significantly impacts the most vulnerable communities, such as low-income families, refugees, asylum-seekers and homeless people.

Sanitree is an incredibly impressive student-led social enterprise based in Edinburgh. They work to tackle period poverty and menstrual stigma through entrepreneurship, by sustainably producing reusable sanitary pads and reinvesting the profits back into their social impact work.

"We are campaigning for this bill because we wholeheartedly believe it marks a crucial step in ending period poverty and championing the fundamental values of health, dignity, and equality. Scotland has been at the forefront of this movement, providing free period products in all educational institutions in 2018. However, the Scottish Government is opposing the bill to make this provision universal, and enshrine access to period products as a statutory right. To change their minds we need your help. We need this campaign to reach as far and wide as possible.

Through this petition we hope to demonstrate that there is wide support across all sectors of British and Scottish society for this bill.

With your help, we believe we can change the Scottish Government’s position and make essential items free for all. Period."
