Get to Know: BUZZARD BUZZARD BUZZARD
Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard recently released the new video for 'John Lennon is My Jesus Christ-Original Soundtrack.' and it's great. The Cardiff-bred band have an exciting year coming up; supporting Noel Gallgher at the Albert Hall in March and then embarking on their first headline tour through April... plus they just signed to Communion Music. We spoke to lead singer, Tom ahead of all the madness.
LB: Hello! First off, are you Buzzard, Buzzard, Buzzard, just Buzzard or Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard?
T: Hi! Definitely no comma, that would be ridiculous.
Leading on from that, where did the name come from?
We were fortunate enough to have a relatively bland band name, which was just 'Buzzard' until we got into some legal trouble with a band by the same name, so decided to copy and paste it. Fast forward to today and behold!
We know that you’re from Cardiff, but how did you all meet?
Myself and Ethan had been playing in bands together for a while, in our band before this I used to play bass and he was on drums, so we had a hot connection from the beginning. Ethan and Zac are childhood friends, they've known each other 'since birth' apparently but that's something I heavily dispute as I'm fairly certain you don't know anything when you're a newborn, but they swear they've known each other for twenty-one years. Ed on bass is my brother and had been getting into bass at the time, so we just got together really.
We first came across you from Double Denim Hop (a bop). How would you describe your style?
(Thank you) We just want to be a rock band, so would probably quite humbly describe it as rock, nothing more, nothing less.
Lots of your videos start with some sort of inspirational lovely fridge magnet quote. Who chooses these & how?
I would love to take credit for these but we work with a very talented creative director by the name of Edwin Burdis who chooses the quotes. His vision inspires us to be better musicians every day, and frankly, we would be nowhere without him.
You’re supporting Twin Peaks on the 26th at the Electric, a wicked venue & wicked headliner, how does it feel? Were you a fan of theirs before?
I've been a fan of Twin Peaks since I was 16 so I genuinely worship the ground they walk on and I met them all the other night at the show and it was the best moment of my life and we joked together like we were friends and it almost felt like a dream?
You’ve also supported great bands such as The Magic Gang before, if you could pick anyone to be your support band who would you choose and why?
The Magic Gang are one of the best bands in existence right now, they were so wonderful to us, and continue to be, genuinely love those guys very much. We really want to take out Panic Shack with us, they're writing really exciting music at the moment, big things.
You’re on the bill for a couple of great festivals this year. What’s your favourite festival you’ve played at?
Green Man, we only played a very small stage but it was rammed - again, it was another instance related to personal affection, I just love Green Man so much, it's the perfect size and everyone there is lovely and loves music.
What songs, artists or albums soundtracked 2019 for you?
I've listened to Glen Campbell every day since December 2018 so I'm going to go with Glen Campbell's 'I Knew Jesus Before He Was A Superstar'.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Obviously Glen Campbell, but also been wearing out Katy J Pearson and Do Nothing on repeat.
And finally, what do you listen to on your Last Bus home?
Glen Campbell - I Knew Jesus (Before He Was A Superstar) - Take It On Home
Stunning vocal work. I love Glen
